Welcome to EventLogger, the complete event recorder for the Macintosh. Althogh designed primarily as a monitoring utility to determine who is doing what to your computer, EventLogger can also be used as a keystroke recorder to save your work.
EventLogger is a control panel. To install it, just drop it into your system folder and restart. Note that EventLogger requires System 7.0 or later. Following is a basic summary of EventLogger’s features:
• Record Keystrokes – Records all keystrokes into the log file. Backspaces are
indicated by the ‘«’ character. Note that menu command-key equivalents are also
recorded.
• Record All Mouse Clicks – The exact location of every mouse click is recorded.
Most useful in determining what users are doing between keystrokes (i.e., in word
processors, users will often type a few lines, then click somewhere to change
something, then begin typing again.)
• Record Menus – This will put a log of all menu selections into the log file. Menus
selected with either the mouse or a command-key equivalent are recorded.
• Record Application/DA Launches – Records the launching/quitting of applications
and DAs. There are four kinds of files which are recorded when launched:
1. Applications – File type ‘APPL.’
2. Background Applications – File type ‘appe.’
3. Desk Accessories – File type ‘dfil.’
4. Other – The finder, etc.
• Save every – This field specifies the number of characters which must be logged
before data is written to disk. A larger value means less frequent disk accesses
but more data lost in the event of a crash.
• Select Log File – This button allows the specification of the log file. Find the
directory where you would like the file to appear, enter the file’s name, and click
